Popular police vlogger Jan-Willem lost his driver’s license for speeding

On the popular Youtube channel Police Vlogger Jan-Willem, officer Jan-Willem Schut takes his viewers for a behind-the-scenes look at the police force. He has almost 350,000 followers and his videos are getting even more views. This week, however, Schut had to walk through the dust.

In a short video uploaded on July 18, he confesses to speeding more than 50 km/h on the motorway after a night shift. He was stopped by a colleague and has now lost his driver’s license.

Well, that’s not practical when you’re a cop and you’re in the spotlight. Maybe Schut should have thought better about it. In any case, he is honest in his latest video. And of course it should. This is the best PR move in this case.

Schut has lost his driver’s license, may need to take an EMG course with the CBR, and has received a written warning from his boss. Since he no longer has his pink paper, he now has to cycle his shifts. And he’ll probably hear that from the people he’s stopping.

“I find it so neat, honest and transparent that I tell you when I’ve done something wrong and when I have to sit up for it,” he says clearly glumly on YouTube. The whole situation has caused him a lot of stress lately, he admits.

Jan-Willem Schut started vlogging in 2016

Schut started vlogging in 2016. He wanted to show what the police do and encounter on a daily basis. His videos became so popular that two years later he joined the state police’s communications department as a social media specialist.

Schut was nominated for a 2020 Silver Televizierster in the Online Video Series category. There was also criticism in the early years. The privacy of citizens in the videos would not be sufficiently guaranteed.
