Dive into the price list: the new BMW 5 Series – a “normal” BMW
The arrival of a new BMW 5 Series remains a big moment. We haven’t even been able to drive it yet, but we’re already familiarizing ourselves with the configurator and the price list.
The BMW 5 Series is a model series that, together with the 3 and 7 Series, has become an integral part of the brand’s history. The arrival of a new generation of models therefore remains a great and important moment. The design of new BMW models has caused quite a stir lately, but the Germans have held back on the new 5 Series. For example, the kidneys are large, but not huge. The car differs significantly from the previous model, but is immediately recognizable as a 5 Series.
Engines BMW 5 Series
You can read all the details about the new BMW 5 Series here, now it’s time to put it together. The first step is motor selection. As usual, the range will become quite large over time, but for now there are five flavors to choose from. There is the all-electric BMW i5 as xDrive40 or sporty M60. If you prefer a traditional petrol engine, you can choose between the 520i, 520d and 520d xDrive.
As xDrive40, the BMW i5 provides you with 250 kW (340 hp), 400 Nm and a range of 582 km (WLTP). The M60 even delivers 442 kW (601 hp) and 820 Nm. What will the BMW M5 offer in return, you ask? As the M60, the range is “only” 516 km (WLTP).
The BMW 520i manages it with an output of 153 kW (208 hp) and a maximum torque of 330 Nm, while the BMW 520d has 145 kW (197 hp) and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. The 520d xDrive naturally has all-wheel drive. An eight-speed automatic is always standard.
Prices of new BMW 5 Series
The new BMW 5 Series costs from 65,081 euros. For this money you get the 520i. Diesel is possible from 74,002 euros (79,340 euros for xDrive). The BMW i5 is even higher with a starting price of 77,572 euros. For the sporty top model, the BMW i5 M60, you have to spend at least 108,427 euros. With our configuration, we keep it modest this time and grab the 520i.
Standard equipment BMW 5 Series G60
Do we still have to deal with the standard equipment on a BMW 5 Series? Rest assured that you will get everything you need. We will pick up one more highlight. Not only do you get the BMW Curved Display as standard, you also get the BMW Interaction Bar, a luxuriously designed control panel for the front passenger. Sports seats are also part of the standard equipment.
model variants
As expected, the new BMW 5 Series is available in the well-known standard variants M Sportpaket and M Sportpaket Pro. Again, we stick to the standard version. Even a stock BMW offers good driveability, but we also find that the stock bumpers are actually a lot nicer than the M-Sport ones. Without these black surfaces, the car looks much more elegant.
exterior decoration
The BMW 5 Series is available in white as standard. Another color costs at least 1,295 euros extra. Then you can choose between a more luxurious white, black, two shades of gray, a kind of light gray green and clear dark blue. An even darker blue is also possible for an additional charge of 2,495 euros. Another variant of black and some shades of gray are available for other versions.
Although we usually prefer a nice color, this time we opt for the lighter shade of gray (oxide gray metallic). In our opinion, the new 5 Series comes at its best.
The standard 18-inch alloy wheels look a bit flimsy under the new BMW 5 Series. For 640 euros you get an alternative design in the same size. 19-inch alloys are available from 1,623 euros and 20-inch models from 3,320 euros. There are five designs in total, see below. There are even more options for other versions, up to 21 inches. In the end, we opted for the 19-inch triplex design 933 (1,623 euros).
interior design
The well-known Sensatec synthetic leather has been replaced by the new Veganza synthetic leather in the new BMW 5 Series. The interior is completely black as standard. You can add decorative stitching, but you can also opt for off-white, dark brown or dark red upholstery. All these options cost 995 euros. Genuine (BMW Individual) leather comes into play for 2,995 euros, optionally in black/dark grey, brown/dark gray and light grey/dark grey. This dark brown Veganza looks more stylish than it sounds, we go for it.
The interior comes standard with dark gray interior trim. Alternatively, there is aluminium, four refined types of wood and carbon. The additional costs for this vary between 480 and 908 euros. Below are some examples. We opt for Finewood grey-blue with an accent frame in dark silver (560 euros).
Packages and Options
There are three option packs: Travel Pack (1,695 euros), Comfort Pack (2,495 euros) and Innovation Pack (2,495 euros). The first includes keyless entry, an automated tailgate and additional storage options. The second package includes four-zone automatic climate control, electric seat adjustment, front seat ventilation and heated seats on all seats. The latter package includes BMW Live Cockpit Professional, gesture control, interior camera and Parking Assistant Plus. We stick to travel and comfort.
We won’t discuss the long list of each option in detail. We mention our choices: delivery without type designation (no extra charge), comfort seats (1,067 euros), steering wheel heating (321 euros), extra tinted glass (513 euros), Harman Kardon audio system (513 euros) and interior heating (1,547 euros). Many other things are already standard or can only be ordered in combination with options that we do not need.
Assemble the new BMW 5 Series G60 yourself
The bottom line is that the finished BMW 520i sedan now costs 78,152 euros. It is precisely by choosing a version without all the extras that we believe we have created a stylish car that still offers you all the comforts. How would you put the new BMW 5 Series together?
