Why this car doesn’t need a nameplate

The first Mercedes-Benz E-Class was created exactly 30 years ago. Before 1993, the E was behind the type designation and meant injection engine, German for fuel injection engine. After the W124’s facelift 30 years ago, injection engines were commonplace and the E was pushed ahead. And tadaa, the E-Class was born.

We have now arrived at the sixth generation of the Mercedes E-Class. And although it looks new, you can tell from afar that it is an E-Class. However, some changes have been made. The E-Class has a slightly larger radiator grille, which is accentuated by a black border. This frame is only black on the Aventgarde and Exclusive versions. The Aventgarde has a smoother design with the Mercedes star here in the middle and just one bar. If you opt for the more traditional Exclusive version, you’ll have more louvers in the grille and the Mercedes logo standing upright on the nose.

Renewed front

What’s different about this front are the headlights. The daytime running lights, like the previous generation, are a kind of eyebrow above the normal lighting, on the new E-class there are also eyelashes below. In addition, we see an air duct at the bottom again like the previous generation, however these plastic details are designed a little differently as they merge into one another behind the license plate.

The interior looks pretty messy. For example, you have active ambient lighting that can move to music, apps or even films. Yes, you read that right: movies. In fact, you can install TikTok, Angry Birds or Zoom yourself. There is even an optional third screen for passenger entertainment.

Powertrains of the Mercedes E-Class

A total of six hybrids are available, three of which are mild hybrids: an E200 with four cylinders and 204 hp and two versions of the 220d with 197 hp. The difference is in rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

There are also three plug-in hybrids. An E300e and an E300e 4Matic and a 400e 4Matic. Like the E200, the 300e have a 204 hp four-cylinder under the hood. Only these hybrids also have a 129 hp electric motor. The system output of the E300e is therefore 230 hp.

The 400e also has a four-cylinder under the hood, which together with the electric motor delivers 280 hp. All hybrids have a 25.4 kWh battery, which allows you to drive around 100 kilometers on electric power. These are the now familiar powertrains, with more diesel plug-ins and AMG variants to follow in due course.
