Why the Nio ET5 Touring is the perfect electric car for the Netherlands

Why the Nio ET5 Touring is the perfect electric car for the Netherlands

There are still not many electric station wagons. Logically, because the body variant is actually only popular in Europe. Therefore, we predict a bright future for the Nio ET5 Touring, which could become popular with business drivers in the Netherlands.

At the time of writing, there are two electric station wagons on the market: the expensive Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo and the cheaper MG 5 Electric. The Opel Astra Electric Sports Tourer and the Peugeot e-308 SW will be added in the near future.

Nio ET5 Touring with more head and luggage space

So, should Nio make any headway in launching the ET5 Touring, the brand could have a small win in store. The model is 4.8 meters long and has a wheelbase of 2.9 meters. Its luggage compartment is larger than that of the sedan (450 vs. 386 liters) and can be expanded to 1300 liters.

The benefit of the further rearward roofline is also that second-row passengers have more headroom. Nio supplies the ET5 Touring with a large panoramic glass roof that can be made opaque at the push of a button.

Available in two 490 hp variants

The all-wheel drive and 490 hp Nio ET5 Touring is available with a 75 kWh or 100 kWh battery. That puts him between 435 and 560 kilometers away. Of course, the Nio’s battery can also be changed at one of the exchange stations in the Netherlands (there are now five).

Minimalist dashboard with Nomi robot

For us, the ET5 Touring is a beautiful station wagon, with its sporty silhouette, distinctive three ‘cones’ on the roof that house the lidar sensors, and narrow headlights.

The dashboard is minimalistic, with a small screen in front of the driver and a vertical infotainment display on the center stack. There are hardly any physical buttons. Everything has to be controlled via the touchscreen, which isn’t always nice when you’re out and about.

The spherical robot on top of the dashboard is called Nomi and it’s an option. The “creature” looks at you when it’s talking and displays all sorts of animations when not in use, which can be quite distracting.

Nio ET5 Touring with a starting price of 63,900 euros

The Nio ET5 Touring is 1200 euros more expensive than the sedan. This means that the 75 kWh version has a starting price of 63,900 euros. For the ET5 Touring with a 100 kWh battery, Nio charges 72,900 euros.
