Take a look at the price list: The Renault Espace is… different

The Renault Espace is dead, long live the Renault Espace! The French brand will come with a new generation of models, but completely different from all previous ones. Let’s get acquainted by looking at the price list.

It may be. In 1984, Renault was one of the pioneers in the MPV segment with the Espace. Along with Chrysler (Voyager), the Renault Espace was also the first really big MPV and in Europe the car that also made the segment big. However, success does not last forever. Tastes are changing, and so are consumers. Instead of spending your hard-earned money on a mostly practical car, people would rather buy an SUV these days.

The new Renault Espace

Renault responded with the new Renault Espace, although perhaps the model should have been called the Grand Austral. The new Espace is nothing more and nothing less than a rear-lengthened version of the Austral. There’s nothing wrong with that and the model will likely sell well, but the new model bears little resemblance to previous Espace models. However, according to Renault, the new Espace still offers a lot of practical interior space.

Equipment Renault Espace

Recently we were allowed to drive the new Renault Espace, now let’s familiarize ourselves with the offer of the Dutch price list. As with any modern mid-size car, the “entry-level” techno is certainly not essential, so we’ll stick with a few highlights: 19-inch alloy wheels, fabric upholstery, 12-inch OpenR multimedia system, Arkamys Auditorium with 3D sound, electric activated tailgate, front and rear parking sensors and side protection with optical and acoustic display, blind spot warning system with lane departure warning system.

Above the Techno comes the Esprit Alpine, which includes 20-inch alloy wheels, partial Alcantara upholstery and darker exterior accents, and a sporty look. In addition, the 4Control all-wheel steering is a highlight of the additional equipment. The top model is the Iconic, which has leather upholstery, additional electric adjustment options for the front seats and additional assistance systems (including a 3D all-round view camera).

An engine variant

The range of engines is pretty clear: the new Renault Espace is always an E-Tech Full Hybrid 200, with the number indicating the horsepower. An eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard, there are no other options (yet). Thanks to the hybrid technology, consumption is limited to an average of 4.7 l/100 km (WLTP).

Prices Renault Espace

The price list starts at 46,830 euros for the Renault Espace Techno. For the Esprit Alpine, Renault demands exactly 3,000 euros more and the Iconic top model is listed from 52,030 euros. We choose the Iconic. For us, it is visually the most appealing and we would have otherwise checked most of the additional equipment as an option.

exterior decoration

The options for exterior decoration are limited to the body colors of Renault Espace, but we have a positive surprise: red is the standard color. Any other color costs at least 800 euros extra. Hopefully this will counteract all the gray on the road. For that extra charge, you can choose between black and dark gray. If you want luxury white or very dark blue, it costs 950 euros extra. We waver between red and blue, but ultimately choose the latter. There is no wheel selection, it depends on the equipment.

interior design

There are no options in the interior either, with “Initiale Paris Gris Sable” leather upholstery being the only option. We’re not complaining about that, it looks good.

Packages and Options

Then we come to the options list of the Renault Espace. In particular, the Advanced Drive Assist Pack includes lane guidance and an automatic speed limiter. The additional price of 500 euros is not too bad, but we don’t do it. With the luggage, you swap the third row of seats for two additional USB-C ports and 100 liters of additional luggage space. We also forego it because those extra seats add the most value compared to the Austral. We don’t tick the matrix LED headlights either, which saves another 900 euros. The standard adaptive LED headlights are already far enough advanced.

The Harman Kardon premium sound system (950 euros) is tested as well as the huge glass panorama roof (1,000 euros) and the head-up display (700 euros). For 200 euros, the space-saving spare wheel is also a “nice gift” from us. So much for the option list, because as a top model, the Renault Espace Iconic already has almost everything on board as standard.

Build the new Renault Espace yourself

Our “new style family car” now costs 55,830 euros. It ends up being even cheaper than the most luxurious version of the previous generation Renault Espace. All prices and equipment of the new Renault Espace (and even the previous models) can be seen on www.renault.nl. You will also find the configurator there.
