Thought it was a duck: Three teens kill swan – and eat it!

A family of swans has disappeared from a pond in the Manlius community in upstate New York. While the fluffy chicks were found again a short time later, there was no trace of their mother.

Now it’s clear why: three teenagers allegedly prepared dinner with her, as reported by CNN. The teenagers have to go to court for that. Because it was not just any swan, but «Faye», the symbol of the community.

“The family and friends have consumed them”

According to the police, the three young people aged 16, 17 and 18 jumped over the fence at night and kidnapped the animals. “Faye” was killed on the spot, the chicks allegedly took the bullies as their new pets.

It gets even more macabre: the swan ended up in the pan. “The family and friends consumed them,” the community police chief said. “They thought it was an unusually large duck.” The teens didn’t realize they had eaten the symbol of the city with it.

“It’s like we’ve lost a family member”

“It’s sad,” says the mayor of the 4,600-resident city of the tragic incident. “It feels like we’ve lost a family member.”

According to the police chief, the teenagers were arrested when they were 16, 17 and 18 years old. They are due to appear in court next Thursday. (lia)
