On Sunday, the mountain rescuers from Ramsau were on duty for seven hours. Reason for this: Two hikers – a man (37) and a woman (29) – climbed the Watzmann in Bavaria. Instead of being thankful, the couple snapped after the rescue, as reported by the Ramsau mountain rescue service.

Actually, the two wanted to cross the snow-capped mountain. But the dense fog threw a spanner in the works for the duo. The two got lost in the snowy landscape and were too exhausted by the cold to continue walking. So they called 911 and the mountain rescue team responded.

The deployment was risky for rescuers

However, the two tourists were difficult to save in these weather conditions: 16 rescuers and two helicopters had to take a great risk during their mission. Due to the poor visibility, the helicopters had to use every cloud hole available to them. The mountain rescue service itself speaks of a “masterpiece”.

However, the couple was not very cooperative. On site, the two were expressly requested to follow the crew’s instructions. “Even for us, the operation in the slippery and difficult to assess old snow in the crash area was risky,” explains mountain rescue spokesman Michael Renner.

Discussion instead of gratitude – because of a sleeping bag

The couple, who were taken to safety by the helicopter, did not seem relieved, but were in a bad mood. They were angry because they had to leave their sleeping bag on the mountain. Renner has little understanding for this: “An abandoned sleeping bag has no relation to the life and health of people!” Nevertheless, the two had complained that they had never been treated as badly as patients.

While the pair fled without thanks, the rescuers at the top of the mountain had to wait an hour for the helicopter to pick them up. Renner: “We are increasingly amazed at the dangerous expectations that seem to be emerging more and more that rescue in the high mountains in all weathers would be both guaranteed and non-critical.” (lia)
