She is actually American, but now she wants to turn her back on her country – and become Russian. Tara Reade (59) from the United States, who accused Joe Biden of sexual assault in 2020, has turned up in Moscow to claim Russian citizenship.

“I would like to apply to the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin (70), for citizenship in Russia,” she said in an interview with the state-controlled Russian media outlet Sputnik published online Tuesday.

The 59-year-old said she initially wanted to go on holiday alone in Russia. But a US Republican Party representative told her she was in danger.

“I don’t see Russia as an enemy”

“When I got off the plane in Moscow, for the first time in a long time, I felt safe, heard and respected,” Reade said in the interview. She sat next to Russian State Duma deputy Maria Butina, 34, who was arrested in the US in 2018 on espionage charges.

Reade accused current US President Biden of sexually assaulting her in 1993 in a US congressional corridor during the 2020 presidential campaign. Biden denied the allegation.

In the interview, Reade said she had always loved Russia. “I don’t see Russia as an enemy, and neither do many of my fellow Americans,” she said. Despite her request for Russian citizenship, she also wants to keep her American citizenship. (AFP/jmh)
