Outrage in Moscow over statements made by US Senator Lindsey Graham (67) during a visit to Moscow: “The Russians are dying,” Graham told his host, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (45). “It’s the best money we’ve ever spent.” Selenski acknowledged Graham’s words, “Thank you very much.”
A pause in editing between Graham’s two sentences makes it unclear whether Graham uttered the utterance in the same breath. He denies nothing and Russians react wildly to Graham, who of course speaks positively about the liquidation of Russians. “In a video circulating on the Internet, US Senator Lindsey Graham spoke about US financial involvement in the murder of Russian citizens during a meeting with the President of Ukraine,” the Moscow State Department said on its Telegram- channel. Due to the Russophobic statement, criminal proceedings will be initiated against the American politician.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov (55) also sharply criticized Graham. It was a “disgrace” that such senators represented the United States. The American Republican is not impressed. He is out of reach of Russian judicial authorities. His meeting with Zelensky on Friday marked his third visit to Ukraine since the outbreak of war 15 months ago.
The US has so far provided more than $70 billion in aid to the war nation, the equivalent of Swiss francs 63.4 billion, according to the Ukraine Aid Tracker. Speaking to journalists after his meeting with Zelenskiy, Graham called for more arms to be delivered to Ukraine. “I expect the Ukrainian counter-offensive to yield results in the coming days and weeks.”
“I’m here to tell you that hell on earth is in store for the Russian military,” said Graham. The “F-16 supplied by the US and Europe will be important. It’s not a silver bullet, but in combination with other weapons it will be crucial.”
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Peskov complained that the West was waging war against Russia “on all fronts”. Moscow’s opponents would attack even what previously seemed unassailable. The Russian ambassador in London warned last week that the war could escalate as Ukraine’s Western allies supply more weapons. Andrey Kelin (66) predicted a “new dimension” of the war.
“Russia has not yet begun to act seriously,” the ambassador told the BBC. “Russia is 16 times bigger than Ukraine. We have enormous resources.” The duration of the conflict “depends on the efforts of NATO countries to escalate the war”.
Then Kelin’s blunt threat — and a gesture of peace like this: “Sooner or later, of course, this escalation may take on a new dimension that we don’t need and don’t want. We can make peace tomorrow.” (kes)
