Texas MPs for impeachment of Attorney General Energy-saving air conditioning modeled on termite mounds

In a rare move, members of the Texas House of Representatives have launched impeachment proceedings against Attorney General Ken Paxton. A large majority of the Republican-controlled legislature voted Saturday (local time) to refer the case to the Senate, where the 60-year-old Republican faces charges of corruption and abuse of office.

Paxton is considered an outspoken supporter of former US President Donald Trump – who sharply criticized the MPs’ actions and decisions. Paxton took action against Joe Biden’s 2020 election like few other politicians, using his office to advance a number of arch-conservative political projects.

Until a final decision is made, Paxton will no longer be allowed to continue in his position, which he has held since 2014. In Texas and many other US states, the Attorney General, who is also the Attorney General, is elected directly by the people.

Paxton’s downfall was that a few years ago, employees accused him of abusing his power to do a favor to a wealthy campaign donor. In addition, Paxton fired the employees who made the allegations public. In Texas history, the Attorney General is only the third High Representative to be impeached in the Senate. (saw/sda/dpa)
