Justine Triet Wins Palme d’Or At Cannes FBI Documents Reveal Plot To Kill The Queen

French director Justine Triet won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for her film “Anatomy of a Fall”. The jury announced this on Saturday evening. The film won from 20 other competition films. A jury chaired by last year’s winner, Ruben Östlund, made the decision.

In “Anatomy of a Fall,” an author (Sandra Hüller) must answer to court after the death of her husband. She is suspected of killing him – but the case is not clear and there are no witnesses. The couple has a blind boy who was believed to have left home at the time of the incident. The psychological drama of justice is not primarily about clearing up what happened. Instead, it’s about the line between fiction and reality and the failure of a marriage. Huller plays an opaque woman with many facets.

Triet is only the third woman to win the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival. The festival took place for the 76th time this year. American actress Jane Fonda presented the director with the award on stage. And said: “For the first time, seven female directors are taking part in the competition. It’s historic.”

Triet, 44, defended the protests against pension reform in France in her speech. After thanking the cast and crew, she pointed out the “historic, extraordinarily powerful, unanimous challenges” to pension reforms that were “shockingly denied and suppressed” and criticized “this scheme of a ruling power that is becoming increasingly relaxed”.

Grand Jury Prize for Jonathan Glazer

This year, British director Jonathan Glazer was honored with the Grand Jury Prize, the second most important prize at the festival, for “The Zone of Interest”, a German-language drama starring Sandra Hüller and Christian Friedel. The award for best director went to Frenchman Tran Anh Hung for “La Passion de Dodin Bouffant” (English title “The Pot-au-Feu”).

Yuji Sakamoto was honored with the Best Screenplay Award for Hirokazu Koreeda’s “Monster”. The Golden Camera for Best Debut Film went to Thien An Pham for «Inside The Yellow Cocoon Shell». Flóra Anna Buda received the Palme d’Or for the best short film for “27”.

Merve Dizdar Best Actress, Koji Yakusho Best Actor

Turkish actress Merve Dizdar received the award for best actress. She embodies a teacher in “About Dry Grasses” by Nuri Bilge Ceylan.

The Japanese Koji Yakusho was honored as best actor for his role in Wim Wenders’ “Perfect Days”. In the film, the 67-year-old plays a man who lives in Tokyo and cleans toilets.

The jury prize went to the Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki. His film “Fallen Leaves” tells the story of two lonely people on the fringes of society who are looking for love. Yuji Sakamoto was honored with the Best Screenplay Award for Hirokazu Koreeda’s “Monster”. (sda/dpa)
