Jordan Rivera, 23, was out at Florida’s Banditos Bar on Sunday. Actually it was a nice evening. But just like drinking, the young man’s bladder started to squeeze around one in the morning.
As the bar was quite full, the queue to the toilet had receded. No problem, Riviera thought. There was a pond just behind the bar. Without further ado, Rivera started urinating there. But he should have let that go.
At the pond, Rivera caught an alligator about ten feet long – and bit off its right arm. Rivera doesn’t know how this came about. He told ABC News, “Whether I stumbled or gave in to the ground. The last thing I remember is running to the water. Then I woke up in the hospital.”
Rivera owes his life to two bar patrons. Manny Hidalgo sensed something was wrong and hurried to the pond. The construction worker told ABC News, “He screamed and tried to swim to shore. I ran over and pulled him onto the sand.” Veteran Trent Rozier then strapped the badly injured man’s heavily bleeding shoulder until a helicopter flew Rivera to Gulf Coast Hospital in Fort Myers.
Meanwhile, the alligator had left. Hidalgo says: «He cut off with one arm and then left it alone. Rivera should be glad he’s still alive.”
He’s also. He told NBC News, “I didn’t lose my life — I lost an arm. It’s not the end of the world.” But maybe the accident hasn’t really happened yet. Rivera describes what happened “like in a movie” and says he felt the arm was still there. The alligator, on the other hand, was culled, as the conservation organization announced. (Mrs)
