Richard Barnett was convicted on eight counts, including obstructing official proceedings, entering a prohibited building with a weapon and theft of government property.

The US Justice Department handed down the sentence on Wednesday more than four years in prison the man who entered the shipping the then president of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosiduring you attack the capital January 2021

Judge Christopher Cooper of the federal court in Washington, DC, handed down the sentence on Thursday, which is damning Richard Barnett for eight criminal offences, including obstruction of official proceedings, entering a prohibited building with a weapon and theft of state property.

Judge Cooper’s sentence was less than what prosecutors had sought, who had asked that he be sent to prison for 7 years.

In court documents outlining the case, government lawyers noted that a photo of Barnett with her feet on Pelosi’s desk “circulated” on the Internet and became one of the “most famous images of the day, symbolizing how the looters had taken control.”

The government even assured that the man, originally from Arkansas, sought to “cash in on his popularity and criminal behavior” by selling autographed photos of himself and even copyrighting the line Pelosi left on the table: “Nancy, Bigo [su apodo] He was here, bitch.

“He wanted to sell products with that phrase, further glorifying January 6 and sowing disrespect for the law,” prosecutors said.

A federal jury in Washington found Barnett guilty of events related to the attack on the Capitol last January and later appealed the decision.

The jury also found him guilty of stealing an envelope from Pelosi’s office and misconduct on Capitol Hill while carrying a “dangerous weapon,” in his case a “Hike ‘N Strike” hiking stick, which can also be used as a stun gun.

From attack on the capital, more than 950 people were arrested for their role in those riots, and 192 received prison sentences, either in trials or by settlement, according to data from the Ministry of Justice.

On January 6, 2021, about 10,000 people — mostly Trump supporters — marched on the Capitol, and about 800 stormed the building. There were five dead and about 140 injured agents.
