Simple method, big effect: climate stickers irritate police officers with a finger trick

The last generation is getting more and more difficult in their blocking actions.

The protests of the “Last Generation” have occupied the police in Berlin for weeks. The climate activists are constantly developing new ideas so that their blockades cannot be lifted so quickly by the officials.

A selection from their blockade repertoire so far: They glue themselves with a mixture of quartz sand and glue, so that the roadway has to be cut open more and more often to get the activists off the road. Another method is to put your hand on the rim of a rental car. In Berlin, there have been more and more slow protest marches lately.

The police must call in the fire brigade to help

The “Tagesspiegel” has now revealed another disruptive tactic. This makes even the technology specialists of the Berlin police capitulate. Last Thursday they had to ask the fire brigade for help and a crane was deployed. The reason: Two climate activists had chained themselves with a copper pipe to the bar of their rental car on the A100.

The technique is called «Fingerlock». “The metal finger lock is a way of luring individual people to an object (railing, pillar) or several people to each other (human chain, group of people),” says an internal guide. “Letting go is much more difficult than sticking because the hands are not fixed. Chiseling or anything like that won’t work,” it continues. The finger lock is “easy to make.”

Latest generation copper pipe trick

Activists are encouraged to use as thick and curved piece of pipe as possible. This makes loosening or sawing extremely difficult. The fingers should be wrapped with duct tape to prevent pain. In the first step, the index or middle finger is inserted into the tube and glue is poured in from the other side. The tube is then placed around an object and the thumb is inserted so that the object is then “curled”.

During the blockade on Thursday, the pipeline had to be cut through with great difficulty. The fire brigade had to lift the car to which the climate activists had attached themselves. The pipe tactic has also been used on bridges, as “last generation” tweets prove.

How do the activists get rid of the pieces of pipe afterwards? “If the elbow is split, acetone can be added to separate the fingers and separate the pieces of pipe from the finger.” Alternatively, you can dip your hand into the oil and rummage down the pipe with zip ties. This results in a resolution time of 1.5 hours per finger. (nad)
