Warned China about a war against Taiwan: US President Joe Biden.

After the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Biden (80) told a press conference that there should be no unilateral change in the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.

“Most of our allies are clearly in agreement that if China acts unilaterally, there will be a response,” Trump said.

“It must be an amicable result”

He assured that the US continued to pursue a one-China policy. However, Biden pointed out that neither China nor Taiwan can act independently: “It has to be an out-of-court settlement.” The US also did not expect Taiwan to declare independence on its own accord.

Beijing considers Taiwan part of the People’s Republic and threatens to conquer it. The island republic of Taiwan, on the other hand, has had an independent government for over 70 years.

Relations with China at an all-time low

Biden assured that the US would continue to help Taiwan defend itself. He stressed that he saw no “inevitability” of war between China and the US or between Japan and South Korea.

In the frosty relationship with Beijing, Biden nevertheless expects a “thaw” “very soon”, without giving details.

Since the launch of a suspected Chinese spy balloon over the United States and the subsequent cancellation of a visit to China by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, 61, the two sides have barely spoken.

Blinken tries to make amends for his visit to China. However, according to press reports, Beijing is unwilling to try to make contact.

reduce dependence on China

After the seven major democratic industrialized countries at the G7 summit decided to take a tougher stance against China, Biden said: “We will not disengage from China. We are trying to reduce and diversify our relationship with China.” Supply chains must be so diverse that there is “no dependence on one country”.

The United States also wanted to protect technologies important to its security. He told state and party leader Xi Jinping, 69, that he was not willing to trade certain items because he used them to build nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction. “I’m not going to do that,” Biden said.

Now there is also an obligation for the Allies not to do this either. “This is not a hostile act,” the US president said. (SDA/ced)
