Report: Relatives of Executed Protesters Arrested in Iran Violent Criticism of Israeli Police Minister’s Visit to the Temple Mount

According to a report, several family members have been arrested after the controversial execution of three protesters in Iran. As the Norway-based human rights organization Hengaw announced on Sunday, two brothers and a sister of the executed Majid Kasemi have been arrested. They would have commented critically on the controversial processes. Relatives and human rights activists repeatedly protested the innocence of the three demonstrators.

Iran’s judiciary executed three other participants in the mass anti-government protests on Friday. This brings the number of death sentences against protesters to seven. The three men were found guilty of killing three security forces in the metropolis of Isfahan during nationwide demonstrations in the Islamic Republic in November. The allegations cannot be independently verified. Amnesty International reported that the confessions were coerced under torture.

The wave of protests in the autumn was triggered by the death of the young Iranian Kurd Jina Mahsa Amini. She died in police custody in mid-September after being arrested by the vice squad for disobeying Islamic dress codes. Her death sparked the most serious protests in decades – first as part of a women’s movement against mandatory headscarves, then against the entire Islamic system. (sda/dpa)
