G7 countries want to make AI fit for democracy The mystery of the missing children in the Colombian Amazon

In the view of the leading democratic economic powers, the use of modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) must ensure that common values such as freedom and human rights are preserved. Rules and laws should keep pace with this development and be adapted if necessary.

“We recognize that while rapid technological change has strengthened societies and economies, the international governance of emerging digital technologies has not always kept pace.”said the statement of the G7 summit adopted on Saturday in Hiroshima.

Global regulatory policies in technology areas such as artificial intelligence must be “updated in line with our common democratic values”. These include fairness, transparency, security, protection against harassment, hate and abuse on the Internet, as well as respect for privacy and human rights.

Together with technology companies, it will, among other things, ensure that platforms counter the risk of sexual exploitation and abuse of children. “We continue to talk about ways to advance technology for the benefit of democracy.”
