San Francisco appoints first drag ambassador Tens of thousands at illegal techno festival in France

Actor and recording artist D’Arcy Drollinger has been named San Francisco’s first drag ambassador. The US West Coast metropolis has been a pioneer of LGBTQ rights since the 1960s.

“While drag culture is under attack in other parts of the country, in San Francisco we celebrate and promote the great artists who, through their art and involvement, have contributed to our city’s history of civil rights and justice.”San Francisco Mayor London Breed said on Drollinger’s nomination. This took place on Thursday.

In San Francisco, schools and libraries in the liberal California coastal city have been hosting drag readings since 2015 — a model that has been adopted in other states as well. The English abbreviation LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer.

Drollinger receives a $55,000 grant from the city. He is believed to host queer events during his 18-month tenure. The project is a joint initiative of the mayor and aldermen, the city library and the human rights commission.

Scenarios and nightclub

He’s “proud to live in a city that’s taking this position for the first time when other parts of the United States and the world may not support drag culture,” said Drollinger, who also writes screenplays and runs the “Oasis” cabaret nightclub. “.

According to the GLAAD organization, which campaigns for gay and transgender rights, 141 LGBTQ hostile incidents and threats against queer events were recorded in the United States last year. Just last month, an Ohio man was accused of setting fire to a drag show church.

According to arch-conservatives in the US, the national lectures by drag queens in educational institutions are intended to “indoctrinate” young people and pose a threat to public morals. Capitol in January 2021 Proud Boys Proud Boys regularly mixes with the public to intimidate the public.

Attacked by the conservatives

Conservatives in the US are currently targeting gender and sexuality with a range of measures. A dozen Republican-governed states have passed laws in recent months that massively restrict transgender rights. For example, Florida lawmakers passed a law in early May that prohibits doctors from providing medical care to transgender minors related to sex reassignment surgery.

Last month, Florida also expanded a 2022 law critics dubbed “Don’t Say Gay.” This means that teaching about sexual orientation and gender identity is prohibited in all school classes. Previously, the ban applied from kindergarten through third grade.
