A Saudi prince offers to mediate between Russia and Ukraine

Crown Prince and Prime Minister Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salmanhe expressed his country’s willingness to mediate between Russia and Ukraine to “solve the crisis politically” during his opening speech at the summit Arab League in the presence of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky.

The Saudi crown prince said this during his opening speech at the 32nd summit of heads of state Arab League statuswhere Zelensky was the guest of honor, who suddenly visited the Saudi city of Jeddah this Friday to participate in the forum.

Upon his arrival in the Arab monarchy, Zelensky said on Twitter that his visit was aimed at “improving bilateral relations and ties of Ukraine with the Arab world.”

“Political prisoners in Crimea and temporarily occupied territories (by Russia), the return of our people, Formula of peace, energy cooperation. Saudi Arabia plays an important role and we are ready to raise our cooperation to a new level,” the Ukrainian president added.

Zelenskiy’s visit comes in the middle of the summit Arab League historic, since he is the Syrian president for the first time in 12 years, Bashar al-Assadafter Damascus was readmitted to the pan-Arab body earlier this month after being kicked out in 2011 for cracking down on anti-government protests.

Namely, Syria was one of the five countries that last year and this year voted against the resolution condemning the invasion of Ukraine, along with Russia, Belarus, North Korea and Eritrea.

During the annual leaders’ summit Arab League statusToday, Zelenski called for “independence” in his views on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and expressed his regret that there are member countries of that organization that “turn a blind eye” to Russia’s “illegal annexations”.

“Unfortunately, there are those in the world and among you who turn a blind eye to these illegal annexations, and I am here so that everyone can take a fair look. No matter how much the Russians try to influence, there must still be independence,” Zelensky said during his speech at the opening of the summit, which held in the Saudi city of Jeddah (west).

The Ukrainian reminded that his country already has a “positive experience with Saudi Arabia regarding the release” of prisoners by Russia, and expressed a desire to “broaden our experience” after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman offered to mediate between Russia and Ukraine.
