It should have been a glamorous evening for Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan when Meghan received an award from the Ms. Foundation received. But according to the Sussexes, the night almost ended in disaster. Prince Harry: There is suspicion of staging

So did Harry film the scene himself? The Netflix documentary about Meghan and him already showed scenes in which the two were apparently followed by photographers in the car.

A paparazzi present in New York now has a suspicion. He thinks the whole situation was staged, as he explained to “Bild”. “There were so many ways they could end the chase,” said the paparazzi.

But that’s not the only criticism leveled at Harry and Meghan in the days following the incident. The Sussex family security team was apparently overwhelmed by the situation, Ken Wharfe believes. The bodyguard worked for the royal family for many years. He believes Harry and Meghan’s security “has never dealt with such well-known celebrities as Harry and Meghan”. The Sun quotes Wharfe as saying:

In his experience, Wharfe said, the paparazzi are talkative at best, a nuisance at worst. “But they don’t want to be responsible for anyone’s death,” he said plainly.

The police contradict the Sussexes

Shortly after a spokesman for the Sussexes officially announced the incident, there were doubts as to whether the account was actually true. An NYPD spokesperson confirmed, as the “LA Times” writes, that the sheer number of photographers made it difficult for the Sussexes to get ahead. But he also said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived safely at their destination and there were no reports of any clashes, subpoenas, injuries or arrests.”

It remains to be seen if Harry and Meghan will actually discuss the incident publicly again. Harry’s trial against the British Home Office is currently underway in London. There, the prince wants to ensure that he continues to receive special police protection in Great Britain and is allowed to pay for it himself. Some speculate that an incident like the one in New York could only sway his arguments.
