On Ascension Day, climate activists of the “last generation” once again blocked the streets in Berlin. Instead of simply sticking to the street like previous protests, the climate stickers now resort to a new, insidious trick.
As “Focus” reports, several activists stuck themselves under two cars with strong glue in the morning. Specifically: to the drive shaft. Because the hands of the air conditioning stickers were pasted under the car, the police could not simply remove the hands as usual.
Two activists stuck their fingers in the end of a copper pipe and then taped themselves off. Because the cars were also lowered, the government had to send in a tow truck with a crane. He lifted the car so the police could remove the stickers from the cars.
Some activists also glued themselves to the road or the body of the rented car. The fire brigade therefore not only had to lift the cars, but also remove the air conditioning stickers from the asphalt with heavy equipment.
The blockade lasted several hours. The highway had to be closed and traffic diverted. The A100 motorway, which is considered an important traffic axis within Berlin, was only reopened in the early evening.
Rental cars have long been part of the arsenal of climate stickers. In the past, the activists slowed down traffic with rented cars. Similar to illegal speed races on the highways, the protesters sit in three abreast cars at the front of the traffic and then slowly slow down. Instead of hitting the gas like the speedsters on the highway, they get out and hold on.
The vehicles are mostly rental cars. The latest generation transparency report for early 2022 shows that rental cars are an integral part of their budget. (zis)
