Another three protesters in Iran performed Desperation in the mud: cleaning after floods in Italy

Three more protesters have been executed in Iran after controversial trials. The men were executed on Friday morning, Misan’s justice portal reported. The protesters were accused of killing three security forces in the Isfahan metropolis during nationwide demonstrations against Iranian authorities in November. The allegations cannot be independently verified.

The men executed were Saleh Mirhashemi, Majid Kasemi and Said Jakobi. According to Islamic juridical opinion in Iran, they were charged, among other things, with “waging war against God” and sentenced to death. According to New York Times research, Mirhashemi was a karate champion. Only a few days ago it was announced that the Iranian Supreme Court has upheld the verdicts. Human rights activists and family members fought to the end to prevent the execution of the death sentences. Amnesty International reported that the confessions were coerced under torture.

Human rights activists have for years criticized Iran’s use of the death penalty. The execution of four demonstrators at the beginning of the year sparked protests both internationally and in Iran. Critics say the state’s goal was to intimidate the protest movement. While street protests decreased significantly after the executions, many women and youth are now expressing their protest in other forms. In the big cities, for example, many women demonstratively ignore the obligation to wear a headscarf.

The wave of protests in the autumn was triggered by the death of the young Iranian Kurd Jina Mahsa Amini. She died in police custody in mid-September after being arrested by the vice squad for disobeying Islamic dress codes. Her death sparked the worst protests in decades. Since then, Iran’s political and ecclesiastical leadership has been under pressure. More than 500 demonstrators have been killed in the protests, according to information from human rights groups.
