British telecom provider BT Group is cutting jobs. By the end of the decade, the number of employees and contractors is expected to drop from about 130,000 now to between 75,000 and 90,000
The dismantling must take place in March 2030, the company announced in London on Thursday.
CEO Philip Jansen has already considerably reduced the workforce in recent years and increased profits. By the end of 2025 alone, he aims to save three billion pounds (equivalent to almost 3.4 billion francs).
In the past financial year, the group’s turnover was lower, but it earned more. Group sales, adjusted for special effects, fell 1% year-on-year to just under 20.7 billion British pounds (over 23 billion francs). On the other hand, earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) adjusted for special effects rose 5% to over £7.9 billion. The key figures were about as expected by experts.
