President of Ecuador, conservative William Lassothis Wednesday, in the midst of the political process being conducted against him, ordered the dissolution of the National Assembly (Parliament), with the opposition majority, and the convening early general electionsso that he will rule by decree until his successor takes office.
In a message to the nation, Lasso announced the measure, enshrined in Ecuador’s 2008 Constitution, because of the “serious internal and political unrest” the country is experiencing.
The President’s decision comes after he appeared before Parliament on Tuesday to present his defense against opposition charges of alleged embezzlement (embezzlement).
The President was dissolving the Chamber, as it is called “death on the cross”a legal figure that can be adopted for this purpose, and not wait for the debate that should have been in the Parliament in order to vote of no confidence later.
92 votes, which is equal to two-thirds of the chamber, would be needed to approve the no-confidence motion to remove the head of state.
