In Pakistan, a police officer opened fire on a school bus, killing a girl. Seven other people, including schoolchildren and teachers, were injured in the incident in the northwest of the country, Dawn newspaper reported Tuesday. The background was initially completely unclear. There was no information about the age of the victims.
According to a report from the “Geo News” station, the police officer has been arrested and his weapon secured. An investigation is underway. “The police officer was on duty here at the school and it is not known whether he is sane or not,” said a police officer at the station.
One of the injured students told the newspaper “Dawn” that the alleged perpetrator had indiscriminately opened fire on the bus as it exited the school gates. “All the kids got scared and started screaming.” The incident happened in the Swat Valley, home of renowned Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai.
