According to the public prosecutor’s office, the German nurse Mario G. administered deadly drug mixtures to his patients because he wanted to be left alone.

The court found 27-year-old Mario G. guilty on Monday of two murders and six attempted murders, a spokesman said.

Early release from prison largely ruled out

The ICC determined the particular gravity of the guilt, which largely excludes early release. G. also received a permanent ban from practicing the profession of geriatric nurse and nurse. The 27-year-old was mainly deployed in the hospital’s monitoring rooms, where patients are transferred from intensive care after surgery before they can return to the regular ward.

Nurse wanted to recover from his hangover

The two murder victims are men aged 80 and 89 who died without regaining consciousness a few days after being administered the non-prescription medication. According to the prosecutor, the nurse wanted to be left alone to recover from his hangover from drinking the night before or to use his cell phone. He also wanted to test the effect of medication on patients, which is why he injected blood thinners or the stimulant adrenaline in addition to sedative medication.

Hans Magnus Enzensberger survived six ampoules of adrenaline

The writer Hans Magnus Enzensberger was one of the 27-year-old’s patients. Of the six attempted murder suspects, three are the result of attacks on Enzensberger in early November 2020, but he all survived. During the third attack, the nurse Enzensberger is said to have injected six vials of adrenaline, which caused a life-threatening increase in heart rate.

In violation of his will, the doctors gave Enzensberger artificial respiration and, according to the indictment, were able to save his life. The writer died last November, two years after the attacks, of natural causes at the age of 93.

With its verdict, the court largely followed the demands of the public prosecutor’s office. In the trial, which began in late January, the defense did not ask for a specific sentence, instead pleading not to establish the particular gravity of the guilt. She also requested that her client be placed in a recording facility.
