He narrowed his eyes. His voice is calm. A day before the bloody crime in which the two Turkish employees Ayhan B.* († 44) and Özkan K.* († 44) died in a Mercedes-Benz factory in Sindelfingen (D), the alleged gunman Murat D published .* (53) a video on Tiktok.
“If your freedom is in danger, you must get it back!”, said the Turkish-speaking D. according to “Bild”. He allegedly shot the two victims. D. took out a gun next to the assembly line and shot his superiors at least nine times, the newspaper writes. One victim was killed instantly, the other later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. D. probably possessed the gun illegally.
Turkish media reported on Thursday that there may be a political motive behind the bloody deed. Murat D. is thus a supporter of the presidential candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu (74), while his victims were supporters of the incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (69).
At work, it was no secret that D., who has lived alone since his divorce, is intensively involved in politics: “I often spoke to him during smoking breaks. Lately he’s always been talking about politics and that you have to defend yourself,” a colleague told Bild.
Another colleague says that there was tension between the victims and the suspect. The latter felt oppressed. Murat D. and his victims were employed by the logistics company Rhenus.
The responsible public prosecutor’s office was cautious about the possible motive: “At the moment we cannot rule out a political motive.” It is currently being determined in all directions. Interrogations are currently being conducted by the detectives.
On the Thursday after the crime, factory security overpowered the suspect, who then allowed police to arrest him without resistance. A video of the arrest is circulating on social media.
So far, D has been silent. The police and the public prosecutor’s office announced on Friday that they had not provided any information to the investigating judge. Police set up a 17-member investigative team called Halle to investigate the crime.
Mercedes-Benz said it was “deeply appalled and shocked” by the crime. “Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and all colleagues at the scene,” said a company spokesperson.
According to the group, production in the affected hall in Baden-Württemberg will be suspended until the end of the week. The rest of the work continues. The incident should be extensively analyzed, if necessary “appropriate measures” should be followed. (Darling)
