Vitamin D is extremely important for the human organism.

Especially in the winter months, many Swiss people take vitamin D tablets. Too little, according to many experts. The vitamin ensures a high level of energy and vitality all year round. Vitamin D is extremely important for us humans. Many illnesses, from the common cold to osteoporosis and heart disease to cancer, are associated with a lack of a sun vitamin.

An evaluation by the German Cancer Research Center now shows another benefit: the daily intake of vitamin D3 can significantly reduce the risk of cancer in the population.

The evaluation of 14 top quality studies on the link between vitamin D3 supplementation and cancer prognosis showed that the risk of dying from cancer can be reduced by twelve percent when taken daily. Under one condition: The vitamin D3 must be taken daily.

Does not protect against disease

According to the current state of research, vitamin D3 does not protect against developing cancer, but it may reduce the risk of dying from it, says Ben Schöttker, an epidemiologist at the German Center for Cancer Research.

The aim of the large-scale reassessment of the research situation was to arrive at reliable results. Because: The issue of vitamin D3 supplementation and its effects is very important for public health.

The value is even greater in people with vitamin D deficiency

“We saw a 12 percent reduction in cancer mortality after untargeted administration of vitamin D3 to people with and without vitamin D deficiency,” Schöttker continues. It can therefore be assumed that the effect is significantly greater for people who actually have a vitamin D deficiency.

The scientist explains that only the daily intake of vitamin D3 leads to risk reduction due to a more regular bioavailability of the vitamin in the body.

When presenting the results, it should be noted that the researchers only selected studies in which the 105,000 participants were randomly assigned to a vitamin D3 or placebo group. (A)
