The federal and state governments are delaying their fundamental decision on permanently increasing federal funds for refugee costs. This is evident from a decision that the prime ministers agreed with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (64) on Wednesday evening. The fundamental decision should therefore be taken at the next regular meeting in November.
However, a decision has been made: the federal government will increase the grant for refugees to the federal states by one billion euros this year. This was announced by Chancellor Scholz after federal talks on refugee policy in Berlin. This is intended to support the states in further unburdening their municipalities and funding the digitization of immigration services, according to the joint resolution of the federal and state governments.
