Former US President Donald Trump (76) was found guilty of sexual assault and defamation on Tuesday. Jean Carroll (79) says she raped her in a department store in the 1990s.

Since the case has already expired, Trump does not risk a prison sentence despite the conviction. Instead, he must pay $5 million in damages. Now Carroll is commenting on her win for the first time.

A win for every woman

She told MSNBC, “Yesterday was the happiest day of my life. The former president berated me so much that yesterday I felt like I had my name back.”

She also describes the verdict as a “victory for every woman”. Because the image of the “perfect victim” was destroyed. Carroll says in an interview, “The perfect victim screams, collapses, and is a sad person. We destroyed that photo.” Because she couldn’t be beaten.

“We Can’t Be Silent Any Longer”

Carroll hopes to motivate other women to speak out against sexual assault and bring perpetrators to justice. “I was born in the silent generation. We had to lift our heads and move on with a smile on our faces. But we can no longer remain silent,” she says.

The more women speak out, the more women would follow them. Carroll is sure: “The more women do something, the better we can change the culture around sexual violence. I hope we can stop these ridiculous, old-fashioned and stupid attacks on women.” (Ms.)
