Most Americans view President Biden as mentally ill

It is quite possible that the 2024 US presidential election will see another duel between Republican Donald Trump (left) and Democrat Joe Biden.

According to a recent poll, most Americans doubt their president’s sanity. US Prime Minister Joe Biden (80) has never seemed more unpopular than he does now. A clear 63 percent majority of those polled believe that Biden is not mentally fit enough to hold the presidency.

The 80-year-old is not only doomed by his age. The people are noticing that their president is increasingly confusing names, has interruptions in front of rolling cameras and tries to avoid press conferences. Biden’s overall approval rating is down to 36 percent, six percentage points lower than in February. In fact, the Washington Post and ABC News research predicts a fiasco for Biden in 2024 — and a triumph for his arch-rival.

If ex-President Donald Trump (76), who was voted out in November 2019, were to prevail against his Republican competitors, he would not have a bad hand in a duel against Biden. 54 percent of those surveyed consider Trump mentally and even 64 percent physically fit enough to return to the White House. When specifically asked about their vote, 44 percent would vote for Trump and 38 percent would vote for Biden. Nearly one-fifth of respondents remain undecided.

America’s democracy is broken

Many Americans aren’t exactly optimistic that there could be another fight between Biden and Trump for the White House. “American democracy is broken,” headlines an analysis by the otherwise pro-democracy Washington Post. “The best the Democrats can offer the nation is a leader who is 80 and approaching 90.” Biden is a president and candidate “not allowed to speak freely or in front of reporters, whose understanding of politics and his own personal history was tenuous even in his prime, and who has been accused of favoring his son.”

The Republican top candidate for the most important office in the world is “admittedly still very young” at 76. On the other hand, Trump has led an administration that has set new standards for chaotic and incompetent administration, encouraged the storming of the US Capitol and faces numerous lawsuits, including allegations that he is a rapist.

Biden, who is always ridiculed for slips of the tongue, just defended his age. He’s got “a hell of a lot of wisdom,” he told the TV station “MSNBC.” He knows more than most people. At the end of a possible second term, Biden would be 86. (kes)
