An Indian Air Force fighter jet crashes into a house, killing several

Several civilians have been killed in a fighter jet crash in India. The MiG-21 plane crashed into a house in the village of Bahlol in the state of Rajasthan on Monday morning, Indian media such as the television station NDTV and the Hindustan Times reported. Several other people were injured in the incident, local news agency PTI reported, citing police.

The two pilots survived with minor injuries, the Indian Air Force reports on Twitter. They had therefore made a routine training flight with the Soviet-designed fighter jet. The cause of the accident is under investigation, police said.

The Indian media previously referred to the MiG-21 as “flying coffins” because they crashed time and time again. The aircraft are considered an important part of the Indian Air Force but will be replaced by newer aircraft in the coming years, according to the army. Russia is one of India’s main arms suppliers.
