Donald Trump, the former president of the USA and the Republican candidate for the 2024 US elections, has already entered the campaign mocking the physical abilities of President Joe Biden, whom he called “unable”.
“Do you think Biden could do this? I don’t think so,” Trump told reporters after making the statement drive going this Thursday to the golf course he owns in County Clare, in the west of Ireland, integrated into the luxury tourist complex “Trump International Golf Links and Hotel Ireland”.
On the second day of a private visit to the island, the former US president, wearing a red “MAGA” (Make America Great Again) cap, went out this morning on he plays golf accompanied by his son Eric and Secret Service agents. When asked if he could defeat the current occupant of the White House who is running for re-election, Trump was resonant: “I could beat him three times”.
“Biden can’t throw a 280 (meter) punch down the middle of the street, can he? Biden can’t even hit 80 in the middle of the fairway,” he said at the start of a round of golf on his 18-hole course. On the fourth hole, Trump continued to communicate with the media present, to whom he boasted can come from tee at a distance between “290 and 295” meters.
And when he was questioned again about his successor as president of the USA, he assured that Biden is “an incompetent person”.
The Republican politician’s two-day visit to Ireland comes after the US judiciary opened several cases against him, making him the first former White House resident to be indicted in the country.
Likewise, his trip to the west of Ireland comes weeks after an official visit to Biden Island – of Irish origin – to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, which ended the conflict. After yesterday he came to the tourist complex that he bought in 2014, which is located in the coastal town of Doonbeg, Trump held meetings with his staff and business clients.
The U.S. Embassy in Dublin indicated that Trump is now a private citizen and explained that, in line with policy dealing with former presidents, he was not on the agenda, although it is providing agents on the ground to ensure security.
Irish police have also taken security measures, although the device is far less visible than the one installed during Trump’s last visit to Clare in 2019, when the then president met his Irish counterpart Leo Varadkar.
