On Wednesday night, two drones crashed on their way to the Kremlin compound, the Russian presidential office said. Putin was unharmed. A little later, Russian state media quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying that Putin was not in the Kremlin at the time of the attack attempt, but at his residence in Novo-Ogaryovo.
“We consider these actions to be a planned act of terrorism and an attempt on the life of the President of the Russian Federation,” the Kremlin said. “Russian side reserves the right to take countermeasures as and when it deems necessary.” The information could not be independently verified. There was no reaction from the Ukrainian side.
During the night, a video had already appeared on social networks showing a small cloud of smoke near the Kremlin. Later, videos were also circulated that supposedly show the moment of destruction by air defenses on the Kremlin grounds.
These recordings could not be verified at first. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said there will be a complete ban on drones in the Russian capital with immediate effect. (sda/dpa)
