Climate activists can be sterilized

Roadblocks caused by climate stickers cause traffic restrictions.

Climate stickers annoy, disturb and annoy motorists – this is the opinion of many activists of “Renovate” or the “Last Generation”. The climate protectors themselves say that young people no longer have a future. An activist (35) from Regensburg (D), who is currently on trial in Germany for a roadblock in June 2022, has therefore said she had herself sterilized.

“Focus” quotes her saying she cannot be responsible for bringing a child into the world. And the activist is not the only one who joined the Birth Strike Movement. The activists do not want to place children in a world that is being destroyed.

Childfree for the climate is not a new idea. “The world is collapsing and it is happening now. I am so disappointed and concerned that I have decided not to have children,” singer Blythe Pepino, 33, told the BBC in 2019. Many activists share this fear. More and more young people are joining the Birth Strike Movement.

50,000 euros as a reward

The German writer Verena Brunschweiger (43) is of the same opinion. “To offset the environmental impact of a single child born in Germany, you can take many, many flights or eat steaks!” says the self-proclaimed antinetalist.

“Many people are proud of the fact that they separate waste and throw the bottles in the container – but then their own reproduction ruins everything. I want to highlight this aspect,” Brunschweiger clarified in an interview with “Welt”. Brunschweiger therefore demanded a payment of 50,000 euros for people who do not have children – as a reward for supposedly protecting the earth.

The activist Marc Fehn (35) also had himself sterilized for the climate in 2020. “I think the planet is already overpopulated and doesn’t need more people,” he said at the time. That’s why he occasionally treats himself to a short-haul flight or a good piece of meat.

Controversial study

Behind the controversial sterilization movement lies a controversial research. A 2017 study from Lund University and the University of British Columbia claims that not having a child will help stop climate change. However, the research is controversial.

And not all activists see it that way. Because a world without children would put the struggle for livelihoods on earth in a strange light. (jwg)
