A large-scale manhunt is underway in the southern United States for a fugitive gunman who allegedly shot and killed five people on Friday. The FBI office in Texas and local authorities have offered a reward of $ 80,000 for the arrest of the suspect, US media report. In addition, the authorities published new mugshots of the wanted person.

More than 250 police officers combed the area and gave chase to the man. With the near six-figure pay suspension, countless volunteers are likely to join the hunt for the fugitive. According to surveys, the southern United States has the highest number of gun bearers in the country. More than a third of the population in this region owns a gun.

Police groping in the dark looking for ‘monster’

The hefty bounty for capturing the fugitive is intended to “enable justice for the five victims and ensure public safety,” James Smith, FBI special agent in Houston, told reporters on Sunday. Francisco Oropesa (39) is being hunted. He allegedly killed five people on Friday night: three young women, a young man and an eight-year-old boy. Apparently, the 39-year-old immigrant from Mexico was angry that his neighbors asked him to be quiet. He allegedly shot himself out of his house for fun. All five victims are from Honduras.

“We can’t continue on this path until we apprehend and arrest him,” FBI Agent Smith said. “So once again we ask for your help until we can bring this suspect – or this monster, as I call him – to justice.”

FBI and police believe Oropesa reached out and spoke to friends. The hope is to get new tips and information with the suspended reward. Unfortunately, there is currently no information about his trail. “We’re just hitting dead ends,” Smith said. (kes)
