ESC wants to show solidarity with Ukraine with Beatles song

In solidarity with the actual host, Ukraine, a campaign to mark the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in Liverpool is calling for people to sing together online and in real life.

Choirs, musicians and the public should record and upload the well-known song “With A Little Help From My Friends” by the legendary band Beatles, who hail from the Northwest English city, HelpUkraineSong stressed. According to the organizers, this is “the perfect opportunity” to show support for the country in view of the ongoing Russian offensive war.

At noon on May 13, when the ESC final takes place in the evening, a “flash mob” will perform the song at the Museum of Liverpool. At the same time, campaigns are planned at well-known British landmarks such as the London Eye Ferris wheel.

The Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra won the ESC in 2022, so Ukraine should be hosting this year. However, due to the war, the event was awarded to Great Britain, who had taken second place with singer Sam Ryder. (sda/dpa)
