Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin publicly mocked a former top military officer in Russia.

After a lack of success in Ukraine, the personnel carousel in the top Russian military leadership is turning again. Now President Vladimir Putin (70) has fired Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister for Logistics Mikhail Mitsintsev (59) – known as the “Butcher of Mariupol”!

Mitsintsev was promoted to this position only in November. Now he’s gone again. The 59-year-old is accused by the European Union of organizing the siege of the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol at the start of the conflict, which left thousands of civilians dead.

Attempted exposure?

The head of the infamous Wagner group, Yevgeny Prigozchin (61), has also commented on the recent staff rogue – and offers Mizinew a top job on his team! The Council of Wagner Commanders has decided to offer Mitsintsev a post as a deputy commander under Wagner commander Dmitry Utkin, a statement on Telegram said.

So is Prigozhin stripping former top executives straight off Putin, creating even more explosive content in the conflict between him and the Kremlin boss? Hardly, writes the American think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in its latest report. Rather, the offer is an attempt to publicly ridicule Mizintsev.

Not the first action

As Prigozhin said, Miitsintsev was fired for being stubborn towards Putin. However, it is unclear what connection the shot down top army has with Wagner. However, according to the ISW, Miitsintsev’s dismissal could be related to the poor supply of troops at the front. The Wagner Group also recently complained about poor supply. Prigozhin even publicly threatened to withdraw his men from the front if supplies did not improve.

It is not the first time that Prigozhin offers a disgraced top soldier a command post and taunts him in this way. The former Russian officer Igor Girkin also received such an offer. Girkin and Prigozhin have repeatedly squabbled publicly in the past, presumably for political reasons.
