The North Korean leader’s sister, Kim Jo Jong, has warned that the recent nuclear deterrence agreement signed this week by the US and South Korean presidents, Joe Biden and Yoon Suk Yeol, poses a new threat to the peninsula. “The agreement reflects a more hostile and aggressive desire to act” against the North that “will only result in the peace and security of Northeast Asia and the world being exposed to more serious danger,” the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said, referring to the so-called “Washington Declaration.”

“The more the enemies are committed to carrying out nuclear war drills and the more nuclear assets they deploy near the Korean Peninsula, the stronger will be the exercise of our right of self-defense in direct proportion to them“, he added. Biden actually had to deny on Monday that he was currently negotiating joint nuclear exercises with South Korea, after his South Korean counterpart made the announcement.

Biden, asked a reporter at the White House to whether he is “currently discussing joint nuclear exercises with South Korea”, he replied “no”, without giving further details. Afterwards, a spokesman for the US Department of Homeland Security specified that Washington was holding talks with South Korea on how to deter North Korean President Kim Jong-Un.

The North Korean leader’s sister ended up having a few words for both leaders, saying Biden was a “poor calculation” in his anti-North Korea ads before lashing out at the US president because of his age. «I understand it as a senseless comment, typical of a person of his age, completely incapable of taking responsibility for the security and future of the United States; an old man without a future who cannot face the two years he has left in office,” he added.

Kim took the opportunity to call the South Korean president a “fool”. “He threatened the security (of the peninsula) with his incompetence,” he added in a statement carried by South Korea’s official Yonhap news agency.
