Ukraine wanted to attack Russia on the anniversary

Selensky adviser Mykhailo Podolyak is angry about a media report.

A long report appeared in the Washington Post on Monday, which Mykhailo Podoliak (51) was not at all pleased with. US journalists revealed that Ukraine planned attacks on the Russian capital Moscow on the anniversary of the Russian invasion on February 24.

The Kiev plan was not implemented only because the US government got involved. One of the Ukrainian president’s most important advisers, Volodymyr Zelensky (45), expressed his displeasure with the article in a voluminous message on Twitter the same day. And he denies everything.

ask for weapons

“We are all seeing another strange media sensation,” Podoljak begins his anger tweet. He calls the message in question “conspiratorial” and “devoid of details and logic”. He asks a series of questions: “Why should we do this? What task would such a one-time action solve? Would it change the course of the war? Would it make the Russians flee? Would it eliminate the need for guns?”

Such reporting fulfills “only a catastrophic function”: they want to portray Ukraine as an “irrational, infantile and impulsive country” that cannot be entrusted with dangerous weapons. At the same time, Ukraine is “approaching the war with iron mathematical logic”.

Ukraine needs “long-range missiles to destroy Russian logistics in the occupied territories and different types of aircraft to protect the airspace and destroy Russian fortifications”. These are the “key components of successful counter-offensives and minimizing losses”. Podoljak then ends the tweet with a question: “Maybe it’s time to stop playing with excuses and backyard realpolitik while the war is still going on and people are dying?”

US steps in

But what exactly did the “Washington Post” report that Selenski’s top adviser made such a statement? The man behind the secret plan is said to be the head of the Ukrainian secret service, Kyrylo Budanov (37). He allegedly instructed one of his officers to “prepare for massive attacks on February 24” – with whatever the Secret Service would have at its disposal.

This is according to a recently leaked report from the US foreign intelligence service, the National Security Agency (NSA). However, the White House feared that attacks in Russia could provoke an aggressive response from the Kremlin – and apparently intervened.

On February 22, just two days before the anniversary, the CIA reportedly released a new secret report. It states that Ukrainian intelligence “agreed to delay attacks on Moscow at Washington’s request.”

The documents are part of a larger data breach believed to be behind Jack Teixeira, 21, a member of the National Guard. Since the beginning of the war, there have been repeated explosions and drone strikes in Russia. Ukrainian officials often only hinted that Ukraine was behind the attacks.

Presidential adviser Podoljak tweeted in English in December after an attack on the Russian air base: “If something is launched into the airspace of other countries, unknown flying objects will sooner or later return to the starting point.”
