Duchess Meghan: Clear statement on coronation rumors

Duchess Meghan will not attend King Charles’ coronation on May 6. Ever since Harry officially confirmed he’s traveling alone to London, there’s been a lot of speculation as to why. Omid Scobie, a close confidant of the Sussexes, said early on that Meghan would stay in the United States for the sake of her son. Archie turns four on the day of Charles’ coronation.

But lately, the rumor mill has been bubbling again as to why Meghan is not attending her father-in-law’s coronation. After reports of an exchange of letters between Charles and the Duchess of Sussex, it was said that Meghan was unhappy with the King’s response. That influenced her decision whether or not to come. Now there is a surprising new ruling about it.

Duchess Meghan: Clear statement on correspondence

Because Scobie made himself heard again on Twitter. The journalist has good ties with the Sussexes: in his book “Finding Freedom” he talked about the parting of Harry and Meghan from the royal family. In an updated issue, he later reported how disappointed Harry and Meghan were when they felt the royals did not respond appropriately to their revelations in an interview with Oprah Winfrey. He bases this on sources from her immediate environment.

On Saturday, Scobie tweeted, “A statement from Team Sussex”. He shared one Screenshot of a statement from a Meghan spokesperson. It says:

“The Duchess of Sussex is preoccupied with her life in the present rather than reflecting on a correspondence from two years ago that relates to conversations from four years ago. All other suggestions are wrong and downright ridiculous. We want tabloids and encourage royal commentators to end this exhausting circus they have single-handedly created.”

The spokesperson clearly dismisses speculation that Meghan’s disappointment with Charles’ reaction was the reason for her absence. She has not yet said why she is staying in the US with the children.

Reporter tips against Meghan

The fact that Meghan now has to “process her life in the present” and doesn’t want to repeat old stories is surprising on the internet. For example, Chris Ship, Royal Reporter at British broadcaster ITV, shared the statement, saying: “However, you could argue that the Netflix series of Harry and Meghan and Harry’s book ‘Spare’ are all about going back to the past.”

Harry had even reflected extensively on his life in British royalty in his autobiography, and in their Netflix documentary, which was released in 2022, the two detailed their departure from royalty in 2020.
