Once they are free, they become criminals again. We are talking about Russian prisoners being pardoned in exchange for their work with the Wagner group. Many of them quickly become criminals again, causing fear and terror in their villages.
As “The Guardian” reports, a case from Georgian South Ossetia is causing particular horror: In his homeland, a pardoned Wagner mercenary stabbed to death a disabled civilian.
It happened in Tskhinvali, the small capital of Georgia’s Russian-backed breakaway region of South Ossetia. The fatal victim is Soslan V. (38), who had a developmental disability.
A video on Telegram would show his pain. It shows how V., who was also known in the village as “Tsugri”, is chased, pushed and eventually stabbed to death by his attacker. His body was discovered Monday.
In Tskhinvali, the death of “Tsugri” causes great consternation. “He was loved by everyone in our small town. He was a welcome guest at weddings and dinner parties. People took care of him and protected him,” journalist Alik Puhati said of V. . The whole place was in shock and could hardly believe what had happened.
The suspected perpetrator was arrested on Tuesday. This is Georgijev S.* (34), a convicted murderer who went to war for the Wagner group in August 2022. He recently returned to his homeland – the small town of Tskhinvali.
S. is far from an isolated case. Former prisoner Ivan Rossomakhin (28) also returned to his homeland and immediately committed another crime. He allegedly stabbed his own mother.
According to the notorious Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin (61), more than 5,000 ex-criminals have already been pardoned. Their release has fueled fears that violent crime by former Wagner soldiers will increase. These concerns are likely to be reinforced by the most recent case. (dzc)
