Russian President Vladimir Putin (80) has repeatedly praised Russian culture and the country’s unique patriotism. But for many men, love for their homeland does not mean risking their lives in the war in Ukraine. Putin’s attempts at propaganda are not entirely successful. And so the Kremlin boss lacks new fighters for the war.

Now the Ministry of Defense not only tries to lure with money, but also plays with values. On Tuesday, the authority published an accompanying commercial.

In the video you can see a security guard in the supermarket. “Is that the kind of defender you dreamed of?”, the image appears before the guard transforms into a front-line soldier. The camouflage clothing features a Z and the Russian flag.

The next scene shows a fitness trainer helping a client lift weights. “Is that your strong suit?” is in capital letters. In the next scene he is also no longer in the sports hall, but at the front. The same thing happens to a taxi driver: “Is that the direction you wanted to go?”

Clear message: be a man and fight

At the end you see the men in protective clothing in a field. “You’re a man, so be one!” stands there. You will then be prompted to register for the contract service. In addition, the video promises a monthly salary of at least 204,000 rubles, so about 2230 francs. According to the comparison website Ceicadata, the average wage in Moscow is 110,600 rubles, almost 1,160 francs. In other regions, the amount sometimes shrinks to half.

Amateur actors were not just hired for the clip. As the Telegram channel “Agenstwo” writes, the Defense Ministry has hired Belarusian Maxim Shalypin for the role of fitness trainer. He also starred in a video clip by Russian pop singer Egor Kreed (28) and has acting roles in various series and films – his face is well known in Russia. Shalypin now lives in Moscow.

But Mikhail Morozov also plays a role in the video – as a taxi driver. In 2014, he condemned the aggression against Ukraine, writing on the social network “VKontakte” that these actions would lead to a “fratricidal war”. Now he shared the commercial on the same page.
