Time and time again, the “last generation” climate activists infuriate motorists. With their now infamous sticky campaigns, they paralyze traffic in Germany time and time again. But now they want to change their tactics – following the American example: instead of sticking to the tarmac, they now want to march slowly.
The new procedure called “Slow Walk” is said to be based on plans from the British sister organization “Just Stop Oil”, writes the “Welt”. The activists now want to rely on a strategy launched 60 years ago by American civil rights activists: protest marches. Experts fear that this form of demonstration will noticeably complicate the work of the police.
According to a tactical manifesto from the British action group, the slow protest marches are more dynamic and harder to control by the police. “People are divided and drivers and pedestrians can interact with the march from different angles – from the front, side, back, sidewalk and intersections.” In addition, the protest marches seemed less radical and were able to attract new supporters.
The first attempt is already pending: activists from all over the country are currently traveling to the capital. Next Sunday there will be a meeting in front of the Brandenburger Tor before the “last generation”, as announced, will return to its core business: blocking cars next week. (lia)
