Emu gives chase with the police

Motorists in the US state of Tennessee could hardly believe their eyes on Wednesday when an emu suddenly sped past them at 40 mph on the Tennessee Highway. Behind: a dozen patrol cars.

The emu had escaped from his home ranch for fear of being hit by a chainsaw in a forest. The police and his master chased the giant bird for more than 20 miles.

According to information from “Wate,” Harry McKinney alerted the police after his emu “MeeMoo” jumped a six-foot fence and sprinted toward the highway. He reveals on Facebook: “I immediately jumped in my truck and drove off. But MeeMoo outperformed me.” And the emu was also too fast for the police.

Local residents found him in his garden

MeeMoo was only found eight hours later in the yard of a resident who had reported a “giant bird” in his yard via the emergency call.

McKinney and his family are very thankful that the emu has finally been found and that no harm was done to anyone. The animal was brought home by truck.

The emu adventure sparks laughter on social media. McKinney hopes the story has brought a little cheer to people’s everyday lives. And indeed: “It’s great that he came home safely”, were many reactions. Another user says, “It’s so funny, I can’t stop laughing.”
