A photo published by Russian President Vladimir Putin has fueled speculation about his health.

Cancer, Parkinson’s or an immune disease – since the outbreak of war in Ukraine, the state of health of Russian President Vladimir Putin (70) has been a mystery. The Pentagon leaks have made the rumor mill boil even more: according to this, the ruler of the Kremlin is suffering from cancer. There was even talk of chemotherapy.

Now a photo of Putin showing him during the Orthodox Easter service is fueling speculation again. This is reported, among others, by the American magazine “Newsweek”. Many see what appears to be a scar on his neck as proof that the Russian president has cancer. The Ukrainian news service Dialog.ua spoke of “a strange spot” on his neck, “that looks like a big scar”.

‘He didn’t look good in church’

Ukrainian politician Oleksiy Goncharenko (42) also commented on his YouTube channel on the performance of the Kremlin chief at the Easter service. “He didn’t look so good in church yesterday. He could move with difficulty. And in the pictures you can clearly see a scar on his neck,” Goncharenko said.

He probably underwent a medical procedure. Goncharenko, they may have performed artificial respiration of the lungs.

Other users are also sure that Putin is currently being treated. “He would have undergone treatment for thyroid cancer,” the comment reads. Proekt, an independent Russian media outlet, claimed a year ago that Putin had thyroid cancer.

And: according to the research portal, the Russian president must always be accompanied by the surgeon and thyroid cancer specialist Yevgeny Selivanov of the Central Clinical Hospital in Moscow.

On the internet, some also pointed out that the alleged scar on Putin’s neck resembles a “Z”, the symbol of the Russian invasion. “What’s wrong with Putin? I think I have found out where the ‹Z› comes from”, for example, wrote the Ukrainian journalist Denis Kazansky (39).

It remains unclear whether Vladimir Putin is actually seriously ill. There has never been any confirmation that he is suffering from cancer or any other illness. (dzc)
