Two injured in alleged attack in East Jerusalem

Two people were injured in a suspected attack in East Jerusalem on Tuesday. Israeli police said shots were fired at a vehicle. Two occupants were injured and taken to hospital. The incident took place in the Sheikh Jarrah district. The suspect managed to escape. Further details were initially unknown.

A Palestinian woman stabbed an Israeli with a knife in the southern West Bank on Monday night, the army said. Soldiers then shot at the woman, wounding her. According to media reports, the 33-year-old came from a refugee camp near Bethlehem.

The situation in the occupied West Bank has been tense for months. At least 95 Palestinians have been killed in clashes with the Israeli army or in their own attacks since the beginning of this year, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. During that period, 17 Israelis, an Italian and a Ukrainian were killed in attacks.

Israel captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 1967. Today, more than 600,000 Israeli settlers live there. The Palestinians claim the areas for their own state. (sda/dpa)
