Three climate activists and one activist have been sentenced to prison terms by the court in Heilbronn for a roadblock. As a spokesman for the court said on Monday evening, two three-month, one four-month and one five-month prison sentences have been imposed for coercion – without probation. One of the shorter sentences was conditionally suspended.
According to the spokesperson, it concerned a man who had already been sentenced to two months in prison at the beginning of March. Now he has credibly assured that he no longer has anything to do with so-called climate stickers. In court, he said he found the protests hopeless in this form.
The decisions are not yet final at that time, as the men have appealed. Immediately after the decision in March, they again tried to disrupt traffic and glued themselves to the street again – which is why they have now been convicted again.
Among those convicted is a mechanical engineering student, “Bild” reports. However, according to the newspaper, he refused an answer from the judge whether he was actually studying. The 22-year-old still lives at home and receives pocket money, the newspaper writes. He was one of the people who took to the streets immediately after the end of the first trial.
The judge said: “You did not take the first verdict as an opportunity to question your conduct.” Because three of the four defendants in the trial emphasized that they wanted to continue to block roads, they had to be sentenced to prison. “You said that nothing else impresses you,” she told the suspect. Heilbronn is participating in a model project in Baden-Württemberg testing accelerated processes.
The group Last Generation had called for a vigil in court. Südwestrundfunk reported that about 30 people followed the call. One of the convicted activists, Daniel Eckert, asked in the group’s statement, “How can prison terms be imposed on people who work for future human freedom and all the livelihoods it takes?”
