Proceedings against rapper Marteria discontinued in the US

A charge of assault against German rapper Marteria in the United States has been dropped. The prosecutor’s office and Marteria’s lawyer in the city of Charlotte (state of North Carolina) confirmed this to the German news agency on Tuesday. “The case has been dropped. And I can tell you I’m happy with this outcome,” said DPA attorney Robert DeCurtins. “I’m glad my client has been rehabilitated,” he stressed on the sidelines of a scheduled court hearing. Marteria herself was not present.

The attorney gave no reasons for the prosecution’s decision. The public prosecutor’s office confirmed on request that the proceedings had been discontinued, but initially gave no reason.

According to police reports, Marteria (40), born in Rostock and whose real name is Marten Laciny, was briefly detained in the American city on the night of March 29 to 30. The authorities’ charge against the “Purple Clouds” rapper initially involved bodily harm by strangulation and assault on a woman in a downtown hotel. (sda/dpa)
