As the Washington Post reports, relevant information appeared in the documents of Pentagon leaker Jack Teixeira (21). He published classified US military documents on a Discord chat platform server and was arrested on Thursday.

Accordingly, the secretly operating Spetsnaz units were massively undermined by the war. The troops, which are subordinate to Russia’s GRU military intelligence service, are actually intended for special missions, the “Post” writes, citing the classified documents. After the Russian troops invaded Ukraine, the special units were deployed side by side with the normal artillery – on the front line.

Commander killed at the front

This decision had fatal consequences. Satellite images from the “Post” show that the army camps of the units have become significantly smaller. Because the Russian special soldiers were killed at the front, they were not available for special operations during the war from the beginning.

The US military therefore assumes that the Spetsnaz units can no longer act effectively – and probably will for years to come. The American documents speak of a training period of at least four years. All in all, it could take up to ten years for the Kremlin to have fully operational Spetsnaz units again.

Only in February, a commander of the Spetsnaz units died in the city of Vuhledar.
